Probing variation of the fine-structure constant in runaway dilaton models using Strong Gravitational Lensing and Type Ia Supernovae

چکیده

In order to probe a possible time variation of the fine-structure constant ($\alpha$), we propose new method based on Strong Gravitational Lensing and Type Ia Supernovae observations. By considering class dilaton runaway models, where $\frac{\Delta \alpha}{\alpha}= - \gamma \ln{(1+z)}$, obtain constraints \alpha}{\alpha}$ at level $\gamma \approx 10^{-2}$ ($\gamma$ captures physical properties model). Since data set covers redshift range $0.075 \leq z 2.2649$, derived here provide independent bounds $\alpha$ low, intermediate high redshifts.

Gravitational lensing of type Ia supernovae by galaxy clusters

We propose a method to remove the mass sheet degeneracy that arises when the mass of galaxy clusters is inferred from gravitational shear. The method utilizes high-redshift standard candles that undergo weak lensing. Natural candidates for such standard candles are type Ia supernovae (SN Ia). When corrected with the light-curve shape (LCS), the peak magnitude of SN Ia provides a standard candle...

Gravitational Lensing of High Redshift Type Ia Supernovae: A Probe of Medium Scale Structure

The dispersion in the peak luminosities of high redshift type Ia supernovae will change with redshift due to gravitational lensing. This lensing is investigated with an emphasis on the prospects of measuring it and separating it from other possible sources of redshift dependent dispersion. Measuring the lensing induced dispersion would directly constrain the power spectrum of density fluctuatio...

TYPE Ia SUPERNOVAE AND THE HUBBLE CONSTANT

The focus of this review is the work that has been done during the 1990s on using Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) to measure the Hubble constant (H0). SNe Ia are well suited for measuring H0. A straightforward maximum–light color criterion can weed out the minority of observed events that are either intrinsically subluminous or substantially extinguished by dust, leaving a majority subsample that h...

Seeing Double: Strong Gravitational Lensing of High-redshift Supernovae

With the advent of large, deep surveys, the observation of a strongly gravitationally lensed supernova becomes increasingly likely. High-redshift surveys continue apace, with a handful of type Ia supernovae observed to date at redshifts of one or greater. In addition, a satellite (SNAP) has been proposed dedicated to observing thousands of supernovae per year out to a redshift of 1.7. Although ...

Type Ia Supernovae and the Value of the Hubble Constant

The methodology involved in deriving the Hubble Constant via the calibration of the corrected peak luminosities of Type Ia supernovae (SNe) is reviewed. We first present a re-analysis of the CalánTololo (C-T) and Center for Astrophysics (CfA) Type Ia SN surveys. Bivariate linear least squares and quadratic boot-strapped fits in peak apparent magnitude and light curve shape are employed to corre...
